Chawama
Chawama community, is found southwest of Lusaka city, is a high-density area with a population of approximately 150,000 thousand and 83,000 households. Many residents in Chawama reside near marketplaces with several of them involved in small business activities, such as selling vegetables, thrift clothing, and grocery shops, to mention a few.
Collaboration with ZGF: Under the auspice of the Chawama Skills Training Centre, ZGF in collaboration with Charmarvel Youth Cooperative, a youth run cooperative, has set up two business projects in food production and tailoring. The businesses are offering an opportunity for youths that graduate from the Skills Centre to practice their trade before they transition into formal employment. Within the Skills Centre premises, the women in the community are also running a saving group through which they can access loans to grow their businesses and meet other financial and social needs.
