Kaluluzi and Kaunga

Kaluluzi and Kaunga wards of Chief Mbuluma of the Soli people in Luangwa District of Lusaka province on the edge of the Luangwa River is a 130km drive from Lusaka town. The two wards encompassing seven villages has a total number of 537 households with an estimated population of 3,222 people. The community members rely on one health post and one government primary school. The community is off the electricity grid forcing community members cutting down trees as a source of energy and to earn income from charcoal production and selling. The main economic activities include farming, rearing and selling of animals, beer brewing, and running of small business.

Collaboration with ZGF: 57 households in Kaluluzi and Kaunga wards have committed themselves to dedicate land for restoration and tree planting in exchange for a energy efficient solar cook stove provided by Afstor.
